Whatever corner of Alberta you choose to visit, nature has laid down a wondrous welcome mat. Carpeted with snow-capped peaks, lakes and forests, it's not just altitude that can take your breath away. Whether you are after adventure or a relaxing break, you will find a friendly welcome and take home priceless memories.

Natural Wonders

Mother nature certainly smiled on Alberta when she was handing out the goodies. This is the only place in North America where the prairie, boreal forest and mountain eco-systems collide, which creates the ideal habitat for so many species, including elk, bison, mountain goats, wolves, bears and even woodland caribou.

Look up ... above the jagged peaks of the Rocky Mountains, higher than where the eagles soar … even the sky in Alberta will take your breath away, the intense blue during the day and at night acres of stars or nature's own fireworks, the spectacular northern lights.

Urban Delights

Alberta's gateway cities of Calgary and Edmonton offer all the usual urban attractions such as gourmet dining,
a thriving arts scene and shopping (including West Edmonton Mall … the world's largest with over 800 shops). However, city thrills come in all shapes and sizes in Alberta … try the zipline, zorbing or the bobsleigh run at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, take a segway trip down the river valley in Edmonton or embrace your inner cowboy during Stampede in July – the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

Winter Cool

Famous for its dry, fluffy snow and sunny skies, Alberta offers unparalleled skiing and snowboarding. With thousands of hectares of powder and new snowfall almost every day throughout the winter season, our six major alpine ski resorts don't disappoint. Whether you're a novice or a black-diamond hound, you'll find terrain galore, as well as plenty of après-ski options in Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper.

For visitors who don't feel like taking to the slopes there are still plenty of opportunities to get out and enjoy winter in Alberta. Try cross-country skiing, skating or snowmobiling or take it easy with dog sledding, a horse drawn sleigh ride or snowshoeing.
